About

I am a professor of Korean language and linguistics in the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (EALL) at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM). My research focuses on two interrelated fields: interactional linguistics and interaction-based language pedagogy. I investigate the intricate relationship between language and social interaction observed in everyday and institutional settings. I am the recipient of the 2017 College of Languages, Linguistics, and Literature Junior/Mid-Career Faculty Excellence in Scholarship & Research Award and the 2023 Presidential Citation for Meritorious Teaching Award at UHM.
